Troubleshooting is the tracing and analysing of faults, either at the quayside or on board during a sea trial, and the recommendation of solutions. Many minor faults and defects can only be seen by an expert with years of experience. Problems found at an early stage, for example a pre-delivery inspection, can save much trouble and costs later in the boat's life.

Troubleshooting can take place after delivery of a new boat or after a refit. During a sea trial potential problems and defects are found and analysed in actual sailing or cruising conditions. The findings are given in a clear and detailed report.
Guido Beekmann performed troubleshooting on the classic 90' wooden sailing yacht The White Heather after major restauration, during her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to the Mediterranean sea.
